Gossip Girl Style Recap: 01×01

26 Aug

It seems like just yesterday that I was in college and eagerly awaiting the next hit CW show from Josh Schwartz and co.  After all, I had spent years with Ryan, Seth, Marissa, and Summer (before they jumped the shark and Marissa got annoying), and I was so so so excited to see the visual representation of Cecily von Ziesgar’s titular characters.

Kind of like The OC, Gossip Girl was initially a huge hit, but later seasons were lackluster.  With GG’s final season fast approaching, I figured I would take a walk back through why I initially loved this show.

Sure, the plot, the acting–but, gosh, the clothes!  Seasons One and Two produced some truly epic outfits–and I still define my style as Season One Blair Waldorf meets Dita von Teese.

I know this was done to death a few years ago, but some of these outfits are just too good to forget.

Fashion Formulas: J.Crew Leopard + Pastel

14 Aug

I love this look from J.Crew’s new fall styles.

The entire look (without the coat, which I’m sure is outrageously expensive) is over $500.  I think we can take the individual elements and recreate it for a lot less.

Leopard Coat + Bright Sweater + Pastel Pants + Cap Toe Shoes

The fun thing about using formulas for fashion is that once you figure out what works, you can tweak it!

So, using the same formula, I swapped out hot pink for a more demure navy, and changed mint pastel to yellow!

Leopard Jacket + Navy Sweater + Lemon Jeans + Ballet Flats

I also might swap around some of the colors in this, and try it out with leopard print jeans from last season, a subdued navy blazer, and maybe a bright red sweater.

Stripes and Pops of Color

3 Aug

I firmly believe that a blue and white nautical striped shirt should be a staple in every woman’s preppy wardrobe.

I love pairing mine with bright pops of color–this staple actually makes a great neutral palate with which you can pair all kinds of amazing shades!

Pair classic stripes with bright punches of color!

These J.Crew Factory shorts are only $32.50, and come in six different colors (white not shown above).  I love how the punchy colors pop against the stripes.  Add a great necklace, scarf, or even a tailored blazer for a polished summer look!
