Looks for Less – J.Crew Winter 2012, Part One

4 Dec

I’m not normally a person who wants to buy head-to-toe looks that I see in catalogs, but J.Crew’s current round of “Looks We Love” are simply amazing.  The red lips!  And the tartan!  And the pretty touches!  So. Much.  Navy!

As much as we all love J.Crew, the costs get a little ridiculous sometimes.  One of my favorite things that fashion magazines do are those “Looks for Less” features where they break down how to recreate pricey outfits for less money.

Rather than cram all my favorite looks into one post, I figured I would break it down into several entries.

red hat skinny jeans

Tweed Jacket – $198
Denim Shirt – $98
Skinny Jeans – $125
Knit Hat – $68
Silver Heels – $238
J.Crew Total – $727

The Preppy Leopard Way

Military Jacket – $75
Denim Shirt – $29
Leopard Flats – $35
Skinny Jeans – $49
Knit Hat – $20
Total – $208

Seeing as I positively loathe the color silver, I had to swap in some awesome leopard print flats.

navy trench plaid pants

Shirt:  $148
Plaid Pants:  $168
Trench Coat:  $365
Heels: $350
J.Crew Total:  $1031

The Preppy Leopard Way

Shirt: $29
Plaid Pants: $77
Trench Coat: $170 (pictured)/  $45 (on major sale!)
Ballet Flats: $25
Total:  $301 (expensive coat) / $176 (cheap coat)

It’s hard to replicate that specific tartan pattern without going up to the uber expensive designer level.  On the bright side–you probably already have some of the components of this outfit.  You could get away with splurging on the expensive pants and then using them to recreate the look for less.

Also, I added the chambray shirt rather than the white one.  Because these specific pants are a little more neutral than the brighter J.Crew version, I think you can add some interest with a colored oxford.
