The Preppy Leopard’s Guide to Black Friday Shopping

21 Nov

So, please don’t think I’m being a jerk when I say that I really despise Black Friday.  I think sometimes it comes across that way, but I only mean that I think if you know how to shop efficiently all year long that there’s no need to wake up at the crack of dawn to fight over cardigans.

I can honestly say that I’ve never gotten caught up in the Black Friday craze until last year.  H&M was advertising a pretty awesome sale (with whole racks of clothes marked down to $5), and H&M doesn’t typically do store-wide sales or promotions.  So, I did the whole wake up early and wait in line thing… And it so wasn’t worth it.  The things they’d marked down weren’t even cute, and I felt a like my day had been wasted.  I ended up driving to Tyson’s Corner’s Galleria mall–which was empty–and hit the J.Crew and Anthro there, but even so, it really wasn’t worth my time.

These days, I think the majority of retailers are offering similar promotions online.  So, my advice to you?  Enjoy your day off with your family.  Sleep in.  Have some coffee.  Watch a movie.  And shop online!

Here are some of the deals I’ve found so far:

While some of Dressbarn’s offerings are a little mature for my taste, they often have a really great selection of work and party dresses.  And through 11/25, the entire website (and store) is buy one, get one 50% off!

Nautica is my go to for classic, nautically inspired pieces, and through 11/27, you can take 40% off your entire purchase by using code THANKS12.

For the stylish men in your life, Perry Ellis is offering 40% off (with free shipping) on 11/23.  But, if you can’t wait, they are currently offering 30% off (with free shipping) if you use code STPETHX30.

Armani Exchange will take off $50 for every $150 you spend.  (Or 33% off your purchase!)

I really love eShakti’s range of custom dresses.  (You pick a basic shape and print, but you can customize little things like skirt length, sleeve style, and even enter your exact measurements!)  They currently have a ton of cute Fall styles for up to 50% off.

Now, this deal is probably not for the majority of us, but Shopbop is doing a cool tiered discount system.   Use code BIGEVENT12 to take 20% off your purchase of $500 …. all the way up to 35% off your purchase of  $1500.

Hankypanky is known for their range of cute undies, and there will be some pretty cool deals starting 11/23.

DKNY currently has a great sale section, but unfortunately, to nab an extra 30% off the sale, you have to actually go into the stores.  BOO!

Ann Taylor is a store that has wildly adorable clothing but is incredibly overpriced.  (You can always tell a store is overpriced by the amount of sales they have.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ann Taylor not offering at least 30% off your purchase.  I pretty much always breeze by Ann Taylor and just hit up LOFT.)  But, right now, they’re offering 40% off full priced clothes and an additional 25% off sale.

Gap started early and already has tons of markdowns both online and in stores.  They’re also currently offering 20% off your purchase with code GAPGIFT.  (Like this nautical striped dress!  SO CUTE!)

Banana Republic hasn’t started as early as Gap, but I read that on Black Friday, they will have 40% your purchase.  Currently, using code BRTHANKS will save you 25% off your purchase.

Tommy Hilfiger is having an epic sale–starting now!  Take 30% off your entire purchase, plus there are extra markdowns on sweaters and outerwear!  Use code BLKFRIDAY30 to save.

Through Friday, you can take 30% off your sale purchase at Vineyard Vines.  Use code GOBBLE30

I’m newly obsessed with Land’s End, and their wide range of perfectly pleated plaid skirts and cozy sweaters.  You can currently take 30% off everything AND get free shipping if you use code THANKFUL and pin 2025.

Ralph Lauren is offering an additional 25% off their sale section (plus free shipping!)

LOFT is offering 40% off everything with code ENJOY.

New York & Company has their entire site marked down between 50% and 70%.

If you guys have any other tips or codes that I missed, please let me know in the comments.  The best way to conquer Black Friday is to be informed!
