The FDA recently did a study that measured the amount of lead that (as in the metal, as in you can get lead poisoning from too much lead, as in that guy from Hart of Dixie who had lead poisoning and thought he could talk to aliens) is in lipsticks.
Now, unless you eat lipstick for breakfast like a crazy person, even if your lipstick shows up on the list, you don’t have to worry. When used normally, your lipsticks are not going to give you lead poisoning.
What was interesting though was that out of the top ten, eight of the lipsticks were shades of red! Yikes! Once I saw that, I started reading with a small sense of dread. If my precious MAC Ruby Woo or Russian Red appeared on that list, it’d be no bueno! Even if technically it wasn’t dangerous, I don’t want a stigma on my precious lipstick shades!
But, after going through all 400 shades, I can happily report that neither shade showed up. Actually, none of my top favorite lipsticks were on the list! (Although, MAC’s Lady Danger appeared in the 300’s.)
